Possessions of the Self
Stalls Gallery, Eden Court, Inverness
Monday 31st March until Friday 25th April
This body of work investigates how our connection to everyday objects is formed and when an object stops being merely a possession and transforms into a part of the self. Through the medium of oil paint, our personal connection to objects is explored as extensions of ourselves due to the value we attribute to them.
The value and sentiment of the painted objects are equally represented by the care and treatment of the surface beneath the painted object, as well as by the painted object itself. Each board is handmade with care, reflecting the tactility of the objects.

A major inspiration for this artwork comes from the process of moving home in 2020 and rediscovering sentimental objects that have been kept throughout her life, some even passed down through generations. These objects became more than just possessions; they hold memories that connect us to special moments in time.

Being a fraternal twin has also influenced the artwork, particularly the idea of being seen as a pair or set, which explains her use of diptychs (an artwork composed of two panels)
in her works.
Objects that are closer to our everyday routine is being explored—mundane items that become more than just objects because they are part of our daily lives.
